New Federal Paved Trails Planned in CA, NV, and AZ

By Charles Pekow – The U.S. Forest Service plans to add a 5,000-foot Pope Beach Bike Path in the Pope Beach recreation area in South Lake Tahoe, CA, possibly with a center line and fence. And a new project is designed to improve access to Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, a popular spot to escape summer heat north of Tucson, AZ. In addition to improving parking and installing a restroom, the half-mile project will include a five-foot-wide pathway as part of the Arizona Trail, along with a kiosk with trail info. Finally, the Federal Highway Administration is planning to build the Red Rock Trail in Las Vegas near Summerlin leading to the Red Rock Conservation Area.
