    Position Summary 

    The Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement will leverage BBP’s empowering programs and community impact to promote access to safe cycling and pedestrian infrastructure; and will work to drive public involvement in the process through grassroots organizing, inclusive community events and educational opportunities.

    Job Responsibilities 

    Bicycle Advocacy Organizing, Outreach, and Education

    • Build and mobilize a coalition made of grassroots community members and organizations BBP works with, ensuring that advocacy campaigns center the voices and needs of those most often impacted and marginalized
    • Organize educational advocacy campaigns, data collection, and community and stakeholder engagement while operating within 501c3 requirements
    • Drive community participation at ACHD, ITD, City of Boise, and other local decision-making agencies to increase safe and equitable bicycle infrastructure and policies
    • Maintain an Advocacy Committee of volunteers, BBP Members, Board Members, business leaders, and like-minded organizations to help drive civic conversations, make public impact, and collaborate on engagement activities
    • Host impactful pop-up events and community outreach year-round including bike month events, candidate forums, tabling opportunities, bicycle safety events, and more

    Open Streets Boise

    • Lead role in planning and execution of Open Streets Boise, overseeing implementation of all permitting, organization and event logistics
    • Coordinate with key stakeholders including City of Boise, neighborhood associations, and other partners
    • Adhere to budget – managing all expenses related to contracted vendors, entertainment, and advertising
    • Identify and manage all necessary vendor and volunteer support for Open Streets Boise and related outreach efforts ensuring a safe & successful event
    • Proactively engage with neighborhood associations to spread awareness about the Energize Grant application process, and ensure community involvement with Open Streets Boise
    • Track all expenses and demographic data collection for Energize Grant reporting

    Organizational Leadership

    • Serve as a member of the Directors team; provide high-level input and support on organizational needs, challenges, and opportunities
    • Support BBP flagship events like the Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway, Idaho Gives, Bike Prom, 4 the Love of BBP, and other duties as assigned

    Key Performance Metrics

    • You meet work deadlines on time
    • You meet or exceed quarterly goals (created with the Executive Director)
    • You adapt to feedback and follow through on performance changes within 2 weeks

    Job Skills and Requirements 

    • Commitment to the BBP’s mission, core values, and belief that “everyone is welcome and all bikes belong”
    • Significant experience supporting and engaging grassroots communities in advocacy campaigns that center their voices and experience
    • Experience with event management and execution at a large scale
    • Experience and success in building relationships with elected officials, local leaders, community organizations, and stakeholders
    • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to think creatively and flexibly
    • Commitment to collaborative organizational culture that encourages healthy feedback and accountability
    • Experience in grant writing and budget management
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Flexibility, teamwork, and hustle

    This is a 40-hour/week full-time/exempt position located in Boise, Idaho. 

    Compensation: $57,000 – $62,000. Benefits include 100% employer funded health insurance, simple match IRA with employer contribution, generous PTO package, EAP, and bike commuting incentives alongside all sorts of shop discounts.
