RENO, Nevada (July 6, 2026) — A driver hit and killed cyclist Jeff Illig in a Reno, Nevada bike lane on May 13, 2026 and then fled the scene. The vehicle was later found with the plates and vin numbers removed and the driver is still on the run according to the family. Jeff was a veteran, a devoted dad, and a 30-year U.S. Postal Service mail carrier. He rode his entire life, commuting and for recreation. Secret Witness initially set the reward for information leading to an arrest at $1,500 – consistent with the crime of burglary according to their website. However, the reward has since been increased to $2,500. The family hopes to raise that reward to $20,000 with a GoFundMe campaign set up by NevadaBike.org. Additional funds will support Jeff’s only son, Nick, whose life teaching overseas has been upended by grief while settling his dad’s affairs.
