November 24, 2015 – Today, the Salt Lake County Council rejected a Bicycle Commuter Benefit for Salt Lake County employees who commute by bike to work. The council removed the item from the 2016 budget by a vote of 5-4 on party lines, with all five Republicans, Michael Jensen, Aimee Winder Newton, Steven DeBry, Max Burdick, and Richard Snelgrove, voting against it and all 4 Democrats voting for it. The benefit would have provided up to $300/year.

This is the second time this year that the benefit has been proposed to the Council, and the second time this year that it has failed by the same vote.
