(April 22, 2015) — Lifetime Fitness today announced the addition of the Leadville MTB Stage Race to the iconic Leadville Race Series roster. The event will take place July 24 through July 26in Leadville, Colo. with the first stage kicking off at 9:00 A.M. MST.

For more than 20 years, endurance athletes worldwide make the pilgrimage to Leadville, with the single goal of competing in the legendary Leadville 100 Mountain Bike “The Race Across the Sky.” Now with the advent of the Leadville MTB Stage Race athletes can race the famous course over three stages and push themselves to go even faster and harder.

“We are thrilled to offer the new Leadville Stage Race as an opportunity for athletes to come and test their limits on the famed The Leadville 100 MTB course,” said Josh Colley, Leadville race director. “The Stage Race is the first new event in Leadville in 12 years and it will undoubtedly challenge athletes in new and exciting ways, as well as complement other events in the Leadville Series. The benefit of this event is athletes of all levels can participate in the Stage Race and go as fast as they possibly can over three days on one of the world’s greatest course.”

The Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Stage Race will consist of the three routes covering the Leadville 100 MTB. The majority of the race is on forest trails with some mountain roads and elevations ranging from 9,200 feet to 12,424 feet.

  • Stage 1, July 24, 2015, 39 miles: Lake County Rodeo Grounds and finish at Lost Canyon/Twin Lakes.
  • Stage 2, July 25, 2015, 22 miles: Starts at Lost Canyon and climbs Columbine and returns to Lost Canyon.
  • Stage 3, July 26, 2015, 39 miles. Starts at Lost Canyon and returns back to the Rodeo Grounds in Leadville followed by a post race meal and party.

* Participants will be offered transportation in and out of Leadville at the end of Stage one and beginning of Stage three.

The inaugural race includes participation from Dave Wiens, Leadville Trail 100 six-time champion, member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, two-time U.S. National Champion and multiple World Cup winner. Read more on Dave’s participation here.

Registration for the Leadville MTB Stage Race is now open to and will fill quickly. Also, the Leadville Stage Race will serve as a Leadville 100 MTB Race qualifier and will have 25 slots for the 2015 Leadville 100 MTB on August 15, 2015.
